Summary
As a naturally timid person, speaking to a stranger used to be a daunting task for Rinaldi. Yet as he is also curious and eager to make new friends, he realized that the key problem was communication. He needed the right tool, and he found it in foreign languages.
Motivation
Rinaldi believes that communication through language is the most basic human nature. He is also a proponent of "Brain Plasticity" which suggests that any person can learn a new language (or any other set of skill) regardless of age, and continually developing their cognitive skills. He used to learn languages in isolation, meaning lack of live interactions with other learners. But that suddenly changed when he found Polyglot Indonesia on social media and immediately joined this awesome community. Now he practices his language skills in an engagingly friendly environment with fellow language enthusiasts during regular meet-ups, and is gaining progress while having fun.
Biography
Born and raised in Jakarta, Rinaldi grew up with childhood friends of various ethnic backgrounds. At young age, this gave him a hint on how diverse and culturally-rich our society is and it became more obvious during college years when he heard his friends speaking in many local languages and dialects. He lives and works in Jakarta and has a degree on Human Resources Management, but he has strong interest in foreign languages. He remembers the first time he watched Japanese anime and suddenly became interested in this mysterious yet beautiful language with its strange writing systems. A sneak peek into Cyrillic attracted him to Russian, and the effectiveness of Hangeul drew him into learning Korean as well.
