Summary

Garry completed his Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and currently works at Posco Daewoo Corp., a Korean company mainly engaging in trade, resources development, project organization, and steel processing services. He enjoys restaurant hopping, travelling, listening to music, watching films, browsing the net, and learning language. Born and raised in a small city in East Java, Garry can speak fluent Indonesian and colloquial Javanese. In sophomore year of college, Garry had a strong will to learn in profound at least one of East Asian language and he chose to study Korean by himself. So, now he can speak Indonesian, Javanese, English, and Korean (intermediate).

Motivation

Since high school, Garry has been interested in cultures and languages. He always captivated by the diversity. He believes that by learning other languages people can become more open-minded, boost their brain capacity, establish better relationship and network, and discover more amazing things. He found Polyglot Indonesia as a community which can accomodate his interest according to his belief.

Biography

Garry is currently a senior steel trader in a Korean international trade company, Posco Daewoo Corp. Since freshman year in college (ITB), he had particular interests in mineral processing and thus he pursued his study in Metallurgical Engineering. He completed his bachelor’s degree in 2016 by taking heat treatment of steel as his final project. Despite his major, Garry started his early career as steel trader developing business by trading steel commodity from Posco, one of largest steelmaker in the world, which mills are based in South Korea. Posco was introduced to him in one of his university course and had become his initial motivation to study Korean since then. Along with the will to learn in profound one of foreign language beside English, and a hunger in understanding other culture, he has been learning and practicing Korean through work, music, movie, etc. Currently Garry speaks Indonesian, Javanese, English, and Korean. He also has interest in Spanish and have tried learning the language in college with the help to his Chilean & Peruvian friends but decided to focus on one language first. One of his favorite quote is "大器晩成 (대기만성)" meaning that "big success does not usually occur early".
