Sita lives in Semarang, Central Java and is married with two children. Now, she is working in a Micro Financing Cooperation. She has been lending a hand to Polyglot Indonesia Chapter of Semarang since the early days of its initiation due to her enthusiasm for languages.
Language can be a barrier of communication. Without a common tool of conveying messages, understanding concepts would be difficult. A good number of people are afraid of learning, speaking up, or of expressing what is inside their mind. Some of them are even afraid to try practicing the language they have been learning for sometime.
Polyglot Indonesia gives the encouragement to practice the language with respect to all the efforts people make in learning languages. That is why Sita joins this association.
Sita was 8 years old when his father continously played foreign song of which she couldn’t understand the meaning. This incited her curiostity for some knowledge about it’s meaning. The first song of which meaning she deciphered was “IMAGINE” from the late John Lennon. From then on, she could not stop learning the language. For a girl in such a small town called Pati, in Central Java, that is a rare interest at the time.
After she was married, she met her husband’s family, which is speaks totally different language. Sometimes it was hard to express what she needed or what she wanted, and situation required her to learn Sundanese.
At this moment, she is interested in preserving local languages that is now fading away. She is concerned with how local languages fall out of favor to English or other foreign languages today. She believes that local languages have the same importance as foreign languages and that mastering more than one local language makes a person a ‘Polyglot’ as well.
