SPEAK UP!
Speak Up

Polyglot Indonesia has this great motto, which I try to live up to daily: Speak Up!

This is my interpretation of those two simple, yet powerful, words:

Speak up: be a better person by striving higher.
Upwards and onwards it is – life goes on, so learn from past experiences, be it positive or negative ones, to do better for you and your family. Keep moving forward by striving higher because repeatedly looking back or clinging on to the past is only hurting yourself.

Speak up: don’t be afraid of saying your mind.
During these last few months (or more), we’ve been receiving boggling news where we think “Say what? But the facts are so obvious!” The loud majority may be pushing you to side with them although you rationally beg to differ. Speak up, state your opinion, stand strong and be firm about your stance.

Speak up: talk positively.
What if they get mad at you? Respond to such a trying situation with patience and tolerance rather than reacting with anger and hatred. Control yourself to discuss matters factually and objectively without putting the other party down and don't be goaded to respond to their threats or harsh words. That would involve active restraint, which comes from a strong, self-disciplined mind. (inspired by Dalai Lama)

Speak up: fight for your rights.
I may have once put a quote on my page stating: as I grow older, I have no desire for drama or conflict. While this is still true, once my rights are disturbed and start to affect the people I love, the ones I am responsible for, those I have to protect, then I have no hesitation whatsoever to fight for my rights. Yes, the people I love are my rights, in addition to my reputation, my job, the cherished people that make me laugh, the truth and my freedom.

Thank you Polyglot Indonesia for the wonderful time we have had, which I am sure we will still share in the future. Thank you for introducing me to such a diversity of positive people, young and younger (I put myself within the range of young, obviously) across the archipelago.

What’s your interpretation of PI’s motto?
